![]() ![]() One thing to remember first before going into this, assuming you’re not already a MAXScript veteran who’s been burned by these before: You should probably (read: _definitely) _make a backup of your MaxStartUI.mnu config file before attempting anything at all with the MenuManager 3ds max UI is not like Maya/XSI, and changes made to the config by scripts are persistent, meaning that you can very easily screw up your installation without recourse for a rollback with a few simple commands. I’m quite amazed that the Python API documentation for 3ds max is about as detailed as Modo’s in this regard, seeing as I’m sure both The Foundry and Autodesk have the financial capability to hire actual technical writers?Īnyway, on to the meat of this post, which is: How the hell do you use the mess of the Python API instead 3ds max cleanly to make your own custom menus? (And not by going through PyQT, which in hindsight would probably have been easier…but not as native!) So it’s no secret that the past few weeks of my life have been me being engrossed in the 3ds max SDK/Python API. ![]()
